At 4 a.m. today I woke up with a fever and the feeling of hot pokers being jammed down my throat. The flu or cold - I'm not sure which one it is yet - has gotten me. Funnily, it's been +8 and gorgeous for the past week, so of course it is reasonable that now I would get sick; when the weather is meant to be sunny for the remainder of the week.
I woke up and went in search of something to take the edge off so that I could get back to sleep. After scouring my bathroom and kitchen cupboards and turning three purses and a briefcase inside out, I came up with three cold/sinus meds, extra strength tylenol, and some buckleys. As I was sorting through the lot to figure out what would suit my symptoms best I noticed that the first box of pills was expired - August 2007! 2007! I've lived in three apartments since then. These little pills have travelled with me all the way from Ottawa.
I moved on to the next box, and the next, and the next, only to discover more of the same. I have apparently been hoarding expired medication. What on earth for? I will admit that I debated on taking the January 2009-dated meds before crawling back into bed. Now, I'm sure the risk for pill-form meds, and something as low-dose as cold medication, probably would have been fine to take. But, I couldn't risk it. To be honest, I'm quite embarrassed that these were in my posession in the first place. I mean, I either don't take medication very often, or I have a serious pack-rat complex. Either way, it's disturbing!
