Dogsitting is like a vacation from your life

This week I've had the good fortune to hang with one of my fave four-legged beasts. I'm dog sitting for a friend who's gone on vacation. I've done this a few times before and find the change in routine a blessing given the current state of insanity that my life has become. Work has been going gangbusters, my brain is overloaded, and I'm finding myself saying "no thanks" to more friends than I'd like. But, with an excuse to stay close to home and get up early in the morning, I now find myself incredibly productive.

Milo - not the dog I'm taking care of - but a goodie nonetheless.

I still don't think I should get a dog at the mo'. Sito and Orange would not like it at all and with my sporadic traveling it just wouldn't be fair. But this, this mini glimpse into dog ownership is wonderful. I like that something forces me out of bed besides the alarm. I like that I actually take a lunch break to go for a walk round the neighborhood. I like that having a dog by your side gives you the freedom to chat with your neighbors without them thinking you're crazy. And I like big brown eyes and happy dances when I walk in the door. I mean, Sito and Orange do greet me at the door but after a quick meow that surely translates into, "oh, it's you," the woofing is a nice change of pace.
