The Toronto Zoo

This weekend a friend and I, wanting to take advantage of the warm weather and to do something productive, went to the Toronto Zoo. It is as magical a place as an adult as for a child. Now, it was beginning of season and things are just starting to get rolling there - no water park or shark tank yet - but it was a veritable delight in all things animal. Particularly interesting is the number of endangered species the zoo supports some that cannot be found in the wild at all anymore.

Now, I'm not a supporter of animals in captivity for the sake of entertainment. Tigers and magicians, travelling circuses, are not for me. But to see the research happening at the zoo was evident and impressive. From the baby gorilla Nassir who was being closely studied, to Przewalski's Horse which no longer exists in the wild, it is clear that the zoo is not just a place for an up-close-and-personal experience with animals, but to help educate people about the impact we're having on more than 12,000 species each year....that's right people..they're disappearing!

Don't look at your $20 admission as the price of a great time, look at it as contribution to doing something good. For you, the zoo, and its inhabitants.
